A baby loon in Bass Harbor . . .

. . . starts to dive as a red kayak approaches. It'll travel about 15-20 feet before re-surfacing,
and you'll get an idea of where it will come up if you just follow the air bubbles.
By the way,
Uncle Bob inadvertently did something similar while trying to get out of the
same red kayak!

Classic 37" Maine wooden lobster trap ( according to the
tags, it was used 1996-2001 ) topped with
an equally classic wooden lobster
buoy. The thing is ingenious: efficient in design & well-crafted.
The half-barrel wood construct is fitted with knotted cord netting, 5 flat rock
slabs ( which weigh it
down to the ocean floor ), a three-hole black plastic escape vent ( for
undersize lobsters
and other
creatures ) and rope. Everything's held together with nails,
knots and 3 rubber hinges on the door.
