Philippians 3:10 |

This site serves a three-fold purpose:
1. to creatively present the Person and claims of Jesus Christ to urban youth and young adults whose lives are influenced by hip-hop culture (in particular, the Young Urban Black Male -- YUBM), and to communicate the Good News He's got for them -- couched in a cultural context conducive to careful and critical consideration.
2. to creatively challenge God's people to get actively involved in reaching out to those urban youth and young adults interested in, influenced by, or even immersed in hip-hop (including those inside their own churches), by providing them with unique information, cultural insight and innovative ideas, helping saints who seek to understand, invade, minister, survive and (yes) enjoy ministry to those (w)rapped up this unique and creative culture.
3. to creatively motivate and empower strategic leaders, prophetically challenging them to and for the Lord's service; seeking to build up "Truth See'rs" from within this remarkably perceptive, imaginatively conceptive and (indeed) surprisingly receptive culture.
The site seeks to accomplish the above by:
Engaging, educating, entertaining, encouraging, evangelizing, edifying and empowering its visitors through the following content:
Culture-specific information, photos * (non-portraitures are either didactic and/or prophetic in nature), audio (beats, rhymes, music, sound effects), interactive street poetry, animations, java scripts, guest contributions from some gifted youth communicators, polls, click-through teaching sequences, Flash movies, a slide / rap presentation, helpful resources, video, visual effects, newsletters, etc. Much of the site is designed to be thought-provoking, but not in a heavy-handed way -- we want you to have some fun as well. Hopefully you'll pick up on something of a wry sense of humor. You'll find a definitive basketball theme runnin' throughout the site for two reasons: 1) the sport's rigorous demands and dynamics nicely mirror those of the Christian life and 2) an estimated 70% of the world's teenagers play the game. You'll also find a lion on just about every page, 'cause that's how we envision our soon-coming Savior, the YUBM and how believers ought to approach the street (as He is, so are we in this world). And though some may find it perhaps a bit objectionable, there's a street-inflected ebonic flava workin' in the text at this site. It is our conviction that such inflections are valid, creative and distinctive expressions of cultural resistance (understanding language as one of the primary components of a culture). It's usage at this site is not intended to devalue its legitimacy or offend "standard" English adherents, but to enable easier communication with a specific audience we really want to reach.
There is one thing we hope will really stand out -- we hope you'll truly feel the Lord Jesus' heart beating alongside of ours in wanting to reach those too many have written off as unreachable (at best) or (at worst) not worth the effort at all. Ya feel that? Then jump in and join us. The Living Water's fine!
In a society that too often portrays the YUBM negatively, we want this site to reflect a completely different perspective -- one that affirms the
sanctity, dignity, worth and honor of this unique people group. But we're also lookin' to go way beyond just being "positive" in our outlook. Human nature and human cultures have both have their positive and negative sides, and so we gotta stay true to Truth by refusing to play up the positive side while ignoring the negatives. This fallen creation and our Faithful Creator can't bear with that, and so we gonna keep it real.Interestingly, "keepin' it real" is what hip-hop claims it's all about (but has a hard time living up to), and bein' real is also what the Lord God is all about (which He has no problem living up to). Anyone who dares to go the distance and get real with Him will find Him more real than they ever could have imagined. He patiently waits for that, not willing that anyone (including any YUBM) should perish.
So take this as a personally-directed challenge to yourself from the Lord Jesus:
"If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."
Matthew 16:24 NASBIt'll cost ya dearly, but He'll reward ya greatly.
If you're ready for that challenge, either as an earnest seeker or as an established servant of the Lord, then this site's probably got something for you.
