• a child of promise and great potential / blessed by God  13:2-5, 24

• brought up in a religious home  13:5

• an overcomer / a survivor (beats insurmountable odds)  chapters 14-16

• loved into adulthood by Momma - more so than being raised into it  14:1-3

• a late-bloomer / experiences some issues in getting his life started  chapters 14-16

• acknowledged as a leader 16:31b

• has hidden strengths / commands respect  14:6, 15:4, 16:3,6ff

• finds his people still seeking their accepted place in the larger society  18:1

• tends to be impulsive, impetuous and impatient / driven by appetites  14:2,9, 16:1

• tends to run after (and eventually with) the wrong crowd  14:10-18

• tests limits and plays life dangerously close to the edge  14:5-9

• a fierce competitor / a street fighter / sportsman / "business" man - a true playa (balla)  15:7-8, 16:28

• thrives in a world of adversity, hostility and retaliation  chapters 14-16

• experiences miraculous deliverances and provision  14:5-6, 15:14-17, 16:18-19

• has some people close to him who have been murdered  15:6

• focuses on the here-and-now  chapters 14-16

• street-boaster / hustler / gambler  14:12-13

• rap fan / rapper / very articulate  14:14,18, 15:16

• sharp, creative and resourceful - sometimes destructively  15:4,15

• highly values nice clothes  14:12-13

• concerned about his hair / dreadlocks / bald cut  16:17, 22

• transient / usually on the move / virtually homeless  chapters 14-16

• occasionally exhibits "over-the-top" behavior  16:3

• has problems with relationships / a social / community outcast: 
  ¬  looked upon warily by outsiders, and vice versa 14:11
  ¬  looked upon warily by his own people, and vice versa 15:11-13
  ¬  rash and incendiary / quick to retaliate / argue / fight / injure / kill  14:19

• self-serving in his relationships with women:  16:1
  ¬  has a low view of women  14:18, 16:1
  ¬  has a "way" with women / knows how to "talk that talk"  14:7, 16:17
  ¬  passive and dependent one moment, then angry and domineering the next  14:2-3
  ¬  plays around too much  14:12-14, 16:6-17

• gets himself into bondage / from simple to complex  16:6-17

• gets caught "out there"  16:20-21

• gets blinded by his own folly  16:21

• has some incarceration experience / oppressed  16:21

• finds his plight exploited for entertainment purposes  16:25

• finds his life collapsing under the accumulated weight of bad life-choices  16:30

• dies tragically and prematurely / a result of "the life"   16:30

• dies as a victim of intentional or unintentional suicide / homicide  16:30

• buried by his parent(s) and family  16:31a

Know anyone else like this?

A life filled with tremendous promise and awesome potential,
yet tragically sabotaged by obvious and glaring weaknesses.
Hunted, he hurtled humbled towards a tragic end.

Honestly.  If you know (or knew) someone else who fits this profile,
would you expect to find him in heaven?  As a role model no less?

Samson is listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11:32!
