Pied Beauty
1877
Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889)

Glory be to God for dappled things —
     For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
          For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches' wings;
     Landscape plotted & pieced — fold, fallow, & plough;
          And all trades, their gear & tackle & trim.
               All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled, (who knows how?)
     With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
          He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
               Praise him.

"The cure for anything is salt water - sweat, tears, or the sea."
Tagore - Bengali poet and novelist

Rob giving me some sailing tips ... um, pointers.  I got a 'tip' the day before when a gust of wind hit the sail and
brought the starboard gunwale below the water line.  Didn't capsize, but some water did get into the boat.

Here I am, givin' it a go.  The next day I sailed solo all the way around Greening Island outside of Southwest Harbor.

Can you find Hummer in this photo?

Hummer car-topped at Manset Dock the day before leaving Mt. Desert Island.  Sailed 2 days 'n outboarded 3 more.  Delightful.

Neither a car nor a Passagemaker Dinghy ad, but it does have potential

Last stop on Mount Desert Island before heading out: the Mount Desert Spring Water Company — twenty-five cents a gallon.
