  Like most people, I too am a bit baffled by the mixed messages being sent by Mason Betha in 
 deciding to return to rapping, especially after indicating he wanted to do ministry so he could  
 "undo the damage" he had done while in the world as a secular artist. The jury is still out, and 
  I guess time will tell where he's trying to go with this.  Meanwhile the hip-hop industry is lit up 
  with delight and expectation, wondering what this former Bad Boy's next move is gonna be.   
 Turns out it wouldn't be Bad Boy, but the G-Unit show which Ma$e has thrown his lot in with.  

The Error of Balaam

Someone wrote to tell me he had recently visited Ma$e's church (May 2006) and said he witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit through Ma$e's preaching.  My response:

Unfortunately, I cannot agree with the logic of your defense of Ma$on Betha's ministry.  James 3:10-11 indicates that praise and cursing coming out of the same mouth cannot be, nor can a spring produce both fresh water and salt water (the whole chapter is kind of rough when you lay it alongside of Ma$e's ministry).  Don't know if you've listened to Ma$e's recent material (done with G-Unit), but frankly such unholy material is totally out of bounds for someone claiming to be a messenger of a Holy God.  If I apply the logic of your defense to Balaam (who spoke for God also), then that means I'd have to take his life as a positive example as well.  I can't — and won't.  Look at what happened to him and the condemnation he received (2 Peter 2:15, Jude 11).  He was a prophet for profit, and we learn later in Numbers that he was instrumental in leading the Israelites into sexual immorality (Numbers 31:16).  The dollar sign in Ma$e's name is purposely placed and an excellent indicator of what he's all about.  Personally, I don't think Christ is all about the $$$ the way a lot of people today are.

TRANSITION: The PASSAGE from ONE LIFE to ANOTHER

"How is Mase handling his transition from rap superstar to minister? Many would think that it would take a lot of sacrifice. However, after a soul stirring vision from GOD, of Mase leading souls to hell, the ex-rapper now returns as Pastor Mason Betha, leading souls to CHRIST. As a "new creature," Mase was given a new shot at life, and this time around he is no longer taking chances.

As a child, Mason D. Betha was told that he would one day be doing GOD'S WORK; however, after numerous multi-platinum hit records and worldwide sold out tours, would you give up this entertainment world of success and give your life to GOD? Mason did, and according to him, he has gained more peace and happiness then he has ever known. Although some friends and family members were lost along the way, he has everything that anyone could ever ask for. In the past, Mason won the hearts of many fans, young and old, male and female, through his electrifying performances, charming smile, and youthful flavor. He was a superstar in the world, but now he is one of JESUS' secret weapons in these last and evil days. As an entertainer, Mason was known for his slow-paced rap style and his listeners were able to capture every word. In his ministry, the same flow is duplicated to administer the WORD OF GOD, allowing listeners to get complete understanding of the HOLY SPIRIT inspired message. He speaks at a level where all people can relate one hundred percent. His sermons are simple, yet powerful, provoking, and real.

Through continual prayer and an intimate relationship with GOD, S.A.N.E. MINISTRIES was established. PASTOR MASON BETHA has made it his mission to SAVE A NATION ENDANGERED, with a particular passion for saving GOD's people of all ages and races. "One day, it was almost as if GOD said: "let me take that blind fold off you, because you're not even aware that your leading millions of people to hell." He also showed me that every time I left somewhere, that was another group who had been influenced to join me as I "marched to hell."

Primarily, the first thing that came to mind was how everyone was enjoying their way (by smoking, drinking, partying, and having sex, etc...) to satan's house. Therefore, it wasn't until then, I realized that GOD wanted to use this same guy. It took me not time to accept that my all-powerful Lord and Savior was going to use me in a miraculous way. I figured if the devil could use the first 23 years of my life to inspire multitudes of people to live all kinds of lifestyles; which showed a great disrespect for GOD and His Kingdom, then GOD could use the remainder of my life to lead the flock back to Him.

Even though, I have let their hands go and discontinued walking with them, these people are still walking blindly today. However, because I lived those lifestyles, it makes my life mission to catch those people before they reach hell that much easier. Since I have obeyed GOD instantly, He has made a covenant of instance with me (and the believers that follow me). With everything happening so quickly it entices people of all ages and cultures to know that GOD has more than enough power to change any situation. Not just for the moment, but for good!"

MASE COMES to PHILLY (2000), PREACHING.  The former Bad Boy megastar rapper (Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs' top artist) was gloriously converted to Christ in April of 1999.  Philadelphia was the the next-to-last stop (December 29) on his "Hell Is Not Full" Crusade, which began in June, 2000 and hit about 15 or 16 locations around the country.  I was tremendously encouraged to hear his powerful testimony and teaching that night.  My guess is that there were about 1200 people at Zion Baptist Church on Broad St. that night, with maybe three-quarters of them being young people.  The brother has (had?) a no-nonsense and very powerful evangelistic ministry, carried out very much in the spirit of Elijah and John the Baptist ("He must increase, I must decrease.").  He expressed his sad concern that he had led so many people along the road to hell during his life as a platinum-selling secular rap artist, and now he wants very much to turn those same people he was leading the wrong way back to the Lord Jesus. 

My personal observations on Mase's remarkable decision to take the LORD seriously:

A man may be passionately devoted to almost anything else,
but when he decides to get serious about his relationship with the Lord,
people feel like they gotta question him.

Mason Betha has simply taken God and His Word seriously, which is what Godliness is.

Jesus talked more about hell than He did about heaven.  Until we're ready to admit that we really deserve and are indeed bound for hell, we'll never see the need for a Savior.  And after all, we're really too nice to go there, and God is really too nice to send any one there anyway.  So why worry?  But then again, the question needs to be asked, "Why did Jesus spend more time warning us with teachings about hell than warming us with teachings about heaven?"

Might be good for us to find out, huh?

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me,
because He considered me faithful, putting me into service;
even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor.
