Philippians 3:10 |

What is man, that Your are mindful of Him,
the son of man that You care for Him?
Psalm 8:4 NIV

The despised element is always a noticeable element in the purpose of God. When the Savior of the world came, He came of [a] despised nation; He Himself was despised and rejected of men Isaiah 53:3, and in all Christian enterprise there is this same despised element, "things that are despised hath God chosen." 1 Corinthians 1:28 -- Oswald Chambers
For real. He's AN UNKNOWN X. The Christ and His Cross are to too too many an UNKNOWN). The task is two-fold: to KNOW HIM and to MAKE HIM KNOWN. Each is dependent upon the other. We purposely endeavor to endear Jesus to the brothers, 'cause they're already dear to Him.
He knows where you live. He was born in an obscure town and then grew up in another that was looked down on by the "power players" of His time (although He's not ashamed to talk about it from Heaven when He holds a brief convo with Saul on the Damascus Road). His life was in constant danger -- even as an Unborn being borne from Nazareth to Bethlehem, birthed in a stable because there was no room for Him at the inn. He was threatened with death as a 2-year-old because His Kingly coming threatened those whose power was but for a moment. He sojourned in Africa as a result of that death threat. He was the firstborn Son in a large family, and had stepbrothers and step sisters. He evidently grew up poor. He was a member of an oppressed people. Hidden away during the time He came into full manhood, He probably working in His father's carpenter's shop until He was thirty.
He went through all the stuff any young man would go through growing up. He grew in wisdom, in stature and in favor with God and man. It's likely He lost His stepfather Joseph sometime between the age of 12 and 30.
He was a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. Just before beginning His public ministry He endured a series of grueling temptations in the wilderness and overcame them victoriously.
He lived a simple lifestyle, and even stated that He had nowhere to lay His head (sounding as if He knows what it's like to be "homeless").
"He was an itinerant preacher. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn't go to college. He never wrote a book. He had no credentials but Himself. He probably never traveled more than 200 miles from His birthplace. And though He never did any of the things that usually accompany greatness, throngs of people followed Him."
Jesus traveled practically everywhere on foot. He had a posse with Him. He stirred up controversy and was criticized for hanging around with some "less than respectable" people. He was accused of being of illegitimate (disreputable and questionable) origin. He called them "friends." He was accused of being out of His mind, as well as being a Samaritan and of even being demon-possessed.
He had no beauty that we should desire Him. But He spoke "large" and acted "large"-- speaking powerfully and memorably -- a rapper in the Hebrew idiom. He told great stories and asked great questions. He acted "large" in doing all the works His Father prepared in advance for Him to do. And He lived (and lives!) "large" because He is Lord of all!
The people had lost heart. Jesus offered them His. He ministered hope as the Holy Harbinger of Heaven -- the Helper and Healer of the hopeless, helpless, harassed 'n hassled, hurting, humbled, hungry multitudes - hobbled, hounded and hindered by sin -- not knowing they were also being hunted and herded into hell by the hater of their human souls - Satan. His heart went out to them. He hung out with them and was Himself left to hang on a cross so as to provide (in its awesome omnipotent potential) the deliverance you and I really need.
In spite of His popularity in the early years of His ministry, public opinion turned against Him when He was only thirty-three. His friends ran away. He was turned over to His enemies by a member of His own posse and went through the mockery of a rigged unjust trial.
He was a radical threat to those in positions of power -- only because He willingly gave up His prerogatives to use His power to oppress. He bore scorn and reproach as He was hung out to die outside the city walls, crucified between two thieves, on a town garbage heap; "at a crossroads so cosmopolitan that they had to write the title in Hebrew, and in Latin and in Greek, at the kind of place where cynics talk smut, the thieves curse and soldiers gambled." His executioners gambled for His clothing, the only property He had on earth as He was bathed in His own blood. He was laid in a borrowed grave.
He offered Himself up as the perfect Sacrifice for my bad (Lord, I am oppressed, undertake for me). How could His heart go out to those whose hearts were hardened against God (Him)? To be high and haughty is to be nigh to naughty. He had a hard time with those as acted that way. (And it's the same today.)
"But three days later He arose from the dead – living proof that He was, as He had claimed, the Savior whom God had sent, the Incarnate Son of God.
Nineteen centuries have come and gone and today the risen Lord Jesus Christ is the central figure of the human race. On our calendars His birth divides history in two eras. One day of every week is set aside in remembrance of Him. And our two most important holidays celebrate His birth and resurrection. On church steeples around the world His cross has become the symbol of victory over sin and death.
This one Man's life has furnished the theme for more songs, books, poems and paintings than any other person or event in history. Thousands of colleges, hospitals, orphanages and other institutions have been founded in honor of this One who gave His life for us.
All the armies that ever marched, al the navies that ever sailed, all the governments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned have not changed the course of history as much as this One Solitary Life."One Solitary Life
He was, is and will always be great in word and deed.
This is just a small part of His story. It goes back a lot further and has a whole lot more than what you've read here, but the critical and crucial point of the story is this: the story is still being written, and in some way you're an important part of the story. Maybe you see the parallels between your life's story and His. There's a reason why that's so -- He wants to have you with Him for all eternity to kind of "show you off" as to how His story and glory are perfect and complete by what He's done in your life.
How could anyone be content to rule as a "king" with the Beast for one hour when they were with Divine delight originally designed and destined to reign with the King of kings forever? Why would anyone wanna go out like that? Tells ya from what direction and final end their thinking is coming from! Metanoia! Change up! Repent! Turn to Him and give Him ya hard rock heart. He can deal wit' it, if ya let Him.
