IT’S ALL ABOUT YO’ FAITH, PATNA’
Now faith is the
substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1
Ever been driving down the street wit yo’ ace homeboy? You got the music thumpin; ya’eyes, like periscopes, are seen just barely over the dashboard cause you got that killa’ gangsta lean in the seat. The air-conditioner is blowing full-force fannin’ your new cologne-splashed scent from the front bucket seat to the wolfers in the back. You got a fresh cut wit every hair in place standing in formation and at attention. And you wearing a tight FUBU warm-up on a body that just hit the weights that morning. Everything on your planet says "You all o’dat!"
As you and your boy ride through the park, y’all catch this tender in your sights from school. You been peeping her all year waitin’ for that perfect moment to shout at her. You figure she knows what’s up, but she been layin back in the cut waitin for yo’ move. You pull yo’ freshly washed car up beside her and slowly roll the window down. Right now, you know you da’ Man. It’s all about yo’…. WAIT! FREEZE!
Check out this brotha’s faith! That’s right, faith! This brotha is using some heavy-duty faith right now in case you can’t see it. He hopes a lot of things will be in check even though they haven’t come to pass yet. He is about to run some serious lines and the only way he can do it is by calling on his faith. You don’t believe me? You think I’m trippin’? Look at it for ya’self. This brotha has the faith that:
1. when his car pulls up on the sista’ it won’t start smoking and making
loud noises ‘cause the air conditioner was running too long.2. the window he is rolling down won’t get stuck half way.
3. the barber used clean clippers so he won’t get an infection that eats
a large spot on his scalp wit’ scandalous dandruff by next week.4. his homeboy won’t jump out of the car and try to mack on the sista’
himself.5. when he talks to the sista’ she wont’trip on him sayin’ something
like, "Oh, baby I got yo’a number long time ago. You a straight dog!
And I ain’t getting’ in that hooptie wit you, yo’ scrub patna’, or that
wack smellin’ cologne!"6. the seat he has been leaning in does not fall flat on the floor with him
in it because a screw pops loose as he rolls down the window.Yeah, now you see where I‘m goin’. This brother has some powerful faith rolled up into one moment. If he thought any one of those possibilities could occur, his faith would be shaken and he may not have had the courage to step to the sista’ like he was. Actually, the brotha’s got faith in a lot of things including himself and his rap, his patna’, the car, the window, the seat, his barber, and the sista. Even though he hopes all will work together in this one moment as he holla’s at the sista, he has no evidence yet that it will be successful.
This is faith, straight up. Religion or not, it’s a belief in somethin’ that you hope for but have never peeped. It’s trusting in what or who’s got your back so that you can live phat and fresh. If you trust in somethin’ that’s flawed, there is always a chance that it will let you down. Patna’s, boyfriends/ girlfriends, cars, clothes, parents, and everything else can be real important, but they can all disappoint when you least expect it. Your faith in them has to have limits cause they have limits.
Is there anyone or anything that you can trust in 100%? Can you even trust yourself 100%? Believe me, nothing is 100% flawless but God’s love. And faith is the key to tapping it. Why have faith in everything and everybody else when you know deep down inside something is calling you to bigger and better things. Why not have faith in the One who is it talking to you in the middle of your high sayin’, "This ain’t you! Squash this!" Why not have faith in the One who is talking to you in your heart after you had sex again saying, "You are not an object. You are better than this!" Why not have faith in the One who keeps comin’ to you on the down low sayin’, " You need to chill out spendin’ time wit this buck-wild posse’ you been kickin it wit!" Even though you can’t see Him or touch Him, know He’s there, listen to Him, obey Him, and have the faith that He’s always got your back. When you do that, He’ll never let you down and He’ll make sure you live a phat, fresh, and abundant life. It’s all about yo’ faith, Patna!
